The U.S. Kids North of Ireland Summer Tour makes a first visit to Bangor
Bangor Co Down was the venue for this weeks U.S. Kids Golf North of Ireland Tour event. This was the first time the tour had visited Bangor.
Competition was intense with only two weeks left in the eight week tour schedule. There was much to play for on a beautiful afternoon at Bangor Golf club. Many of the young players were inspired by visits to Ballyliffin to watch the Irish Open earlier in the week.
North of Ireland Summer Tour Results from Bangor
Boys 6 and under
Parker Bonnes played exceptional golf and added another win to his record on the Summer tour with another under par round. Parker has now won five of the six events to date and the one he lost was in a play off. Sevie Trowlan battled to secure second place from Armagh’s Brody Baird with Luke McKenna taking 4th place.
Boys 7
Atharva Rajeshkumar enjoyed his visit to Bangor and celebrated by taking 1st place from Rhys McDowell and Carter McLarnon who shared 2nd place. Harry Thompson improved on his previous finishes in his two previous events to take 4th place from Rory Stewart in 5th.
Boys 8
There was an exciting finish in boys 8 with a three way playoff between playing partners Oisín Holman, Zac Hay and Lewis McGarry. The exciting playoff had to go to the 2nd extra hole with Oisín winning the playoff to take his first win in only his second start on the U.S. Kids North of Ireland Tour.
Second place was shared by Zac Hay and Lewis McGarry, both boys recording their second 2nd place in the Summer Tour. Maddox Meers finished in 4th place but still lies 2nd in the Order of Merit behind Ollie McEvoy.
Boys 9
Harry O’Hara finished 1st to take his third 1st place on the Summer Tour. With three first places and three second places Harry tops the Order of Merit. Lurgan’s Niall Coleman was second, improving on his two previous outings where he took 3rd place. Zaak Kane finished in 3rd place.
Boys 10
Harry Flood matched his 1st place last week at Galgorm Castle with another win in Bangor. This closes the gap at the top of the Order of Merit with Oliver Gartley still leading the way. Raggav Puri, in his first Summer Tour event finished in 2nd place.
This is a very competitive age group with 53 points the difference between 1st and 5th place. With double points on offer at the Tour Championship it looks like a close finish.
Boys 11
Louis Goodwin was delighted with his golf on a Bangor course that was playing hard and fast. Louis shot an excellent 80 to take first place and to return to the top of the Order of Merit. Second place was shared by Conor Coleman and Cork’s Sean Reddy who got his first taste of U.S. Kids Competition. Sam Rutledge took 4th place.
Only 81 points separates 1st to 4th place so this one will go down to the last event.
Boys 12
Michael Wilson took 1st place in boys 12 to remain at the top of the Order of Merit. Michael has a 70 point lead over Peter Kelly in 2nd place with two events remaining.
Boys 13-14
Kaeden Anderson’s 1st place ensured that he returned to the top of the Order of Merit but by a very slim 2.5 points from Sheà Williamson. Bangor’s Shea Dorman used the local knowledge to secure 2nd place from Sheà Williamson in 3rd.
Girls 8-9
Aisling Totton made it three successive wins from her past three starts to top the Order of Merit. Amelia Penrose matched her 2nd place in Galgorm with another 2nd place in Bangor. Amelia is in second place in the Order of Merit.

The Tour Championship
The North of Ireland Summer Tour will conclude with the Tour Championship which will be held at another new venue to the Tour, Spa Golf Club, Ballynahinch. The young players are made to feel special with some features the Professionals have in their tournaments. Firstly, the tour championship has double Order of Merit points for all players in all age groups. This makes the final event very exciting with the possibility of a good finish clinching the Order of Merit.
The draw for the Tour Championship automatically places players in the draw based on their position in the order of Merit with the leaders going out last! How professional is that!
As the concluding event in the Summer Tour schedule, some lucky players will attain U.S. Kids Priority status, details of how this is allocated can be found on the U.S. Kids website. Let Zoe know on how you get on and if you attain Priority Status using Twitter or Facebook.
