U.S. Kids North of Ireland Summer Tour tees it up at Massereene

Massereene was host to this week’s North of Ireland Summer Tour. The damp conditions tested the young players with scoring in most groups a bit higher than normal.

This was the last event before the Tour Championship at Spa Golf Club when the Order of Merits will be decided with double points available to add to the excitement.

North of Ireland Summer Tour Results from Massereene

Boys 6 and under

Parker Bonnes has dominated this age group and with another good round took 1st place. Parker was pushed all the way by Freddie Mairs just one shot behind in 2nd place. Tomas Owens was 3rd but still maintains his 2nd place in the Order of Merit.

Dylan Cummings took 4th place from Sevie Trowlen in 5th, Luke McKenna in 6th and Brody Baird in 7th.

Parker has a commanding 83 point lead in the Order of Merit from Tomas Owens in 2nd and Sevie Trowlen only a further 7 points behine in 3rd place.

Boys 7

Atharva Rajeshkumar’s excellent level par round secured 1st place from Tiernan Bradley in 2nd place. Rhys McDowell was 3rd from Rory Stewart in 4th.

Atharva has closed the gap between 1st and 2nd place in the Order of Merit and is now 20.5 points behind Tiernan who maintains his 1st place. Rhys McDowell is in 3rd place and there will be quite a battle with Carter McLarnon who is only 4 points behind Rhys.

Boys 8

Ollie McEvoy continued his record of winning each event he has played in the Summer Tour and tops the Order of Merit. Elliott Andrews and Adam Doherty were locked together in 2nd place with Zac Hay sharing 4th place with Maddox Meers. Oisín Holman shared 6th place with Lewis McGarry with Alfie Steritt in 8th place.

Ollie has a 77 point lead over Maddox Meers in the Order of Merit, with Zac Hay just 3 points behind Maddox in 3rd place.

Boys 9

The scoring was a bit higher than normal across most age groups but Eoin Burrows and Scott McCabe both shot superb rounts of 1 under par to tie for first place. Eoin Burrows celebrated his return to the North of Ireland Summer Tour winning the playoff.

Harris Flemming, who has never been out of the top three places in each event took 3rd place with Harry O’Hara in 4th. Connor Quinn took 5th place.

Harry still remains in 1st place in the Order of Merit, 51 points ahead of Harris in 2nd place. David Lyttle is in 3rd place from only two starts on the tour.

Boys 10

Paul Fletcher returned to the Summer tour and recorded his second win with Harry Flood in 2nd place.

Paul’s win closed the gap to 10.5 points behind Oliver Gartley in the Order of Merit. Harry Flood is 2.5 points further back in 3rdplace. Only 13 points is the difference between 1st and 3rd place so this one will be decided at the Tour Championship.

Boys 11

Thompson Gedge headed the field in boys 11 with Louis Goodman taking 2nd place. Sam Rutledge took 3rd place from Jack Maguire in 4th.

Only 20 points separates Louis, who leads the Order of Merit from Thompson in 2nd place. Sam Rutledge is in 3rd place with Conor Coleman only 1.5 points behind in 4th place. The Tour Championship is poised for an exciting finish in this age group.

Boys 12

Peter Kelly recorded his second win of the Summer Tour with Ryan Dakhane in 2nd and Ben Fletcher in 3rd.

Peter’s win places him 40 points behind Michael Wilson who remains top of the Order of Merit with Ryan Dakhane in 3rd place.

Boys 13-14

Kaeden Anderson’s first place leaves him at the top of the Order of Merit in advance of the Tour Championship. Noah Bickerstaff took second place by one shot from Sheà Williamson in 3rd.

Kaeden has a 17.5 point lead over Sheà in 2nd so the result of the Tour Championship will be important.

Girls 8-9

Aisling Totton takes a 74 point lead into the Tour Championship with her fourth consecutive win. Mollie Douglas took 2nd place with Emma Vinarcik 3rd, Tegan MacDonald 4th and Amelia Penrose 5th.

Amelia remains in 2nd place in the Order of Merit, only 20 points separates the remaining players Lucie Strnadova, Mollie Douglas, Tegan MacDonald, Emma Vinarcik and Hannah Lee-McNamara.

Girls 12-14

Lurgan’s Niamh Quinn took 1st place in girls 12-14 and is 30 points behind Millie Thompson.

The Tour Championship 

The North of Ireland Summer Tour will conclude with the Tour Championship which will be held at another new venue to the Tour, Spa Golf Club, Ballynahinch. The young players are made to feel special with some features the Professionals have in their tournaments. Firstly, the tour championship has double Order of Merit points for all players in all age groups. This makes the final event very exciting with the possibility of a good finish clinching the Order of Merit.

The draw for the Tour Championship automatically places players in the draw based on their position in the order of Merit with the leaders going out last! How professional is that!
