The US Kids World Championships
The US Kids World Championships started in 2005 and is played at the Pinehurst Resort and neighbouring courses each year. The World Championships is divided into a number of different age groups for boys and girls, each assigned to a different course. These players have had to attain a certain level of proficiency in US Kids Golf qualifying tournaments, so the standard is very high. A number of previous US Kids Golf World Championship competitors have gone on to successful professional careers including, Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, Lexi Thompson and Cheyenne Woods.
In addition to three days of tournament play there is a wide range of events including:
- Parent/Child Tournament,
- Team Challenge,
- Parade of Nations,
- Honda Skills Challenge,
- Closing Ceremony.
This year’s U.S. Kids World Championship runs from 3rd – 5th August.
The Van Horn Cup
Following the main Tournament, there is also a Ryder Cup style team event for 12 year olds, The World Van Horn Cup. Players from USA take on the Rest of the World in a one day better ball competition. The World Van Horn Cup is played of Pinehurst No. 2, a course that has hosted a Ryder Cup, a US PGA Championship, three US Opens and the 2014 US Women’s Open.
